Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light The Night Campaign
A seasoned health care executive and patient advocate, Stacy Chick has led a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. In addition to her work in the health care sector, Stacy Chick advocates for patients and solutions to health care issues as a supporter of nonprofit organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Founded in 1949, LLS has spent more than $1 billion on cutting-edge research into blood cancers. Additionally, it has provided support to more than 30,000 individuals affected by blood cancer and advocates for state and federal legislation that benefits cancer patients. To fund its advocacy programs and research efforts, LLS relies on a combination of grant funding, charitable partners, and volunteer fundraising efforts such as the Light The Night campaign.
With a mission of bringing light to the darkness of cancer, the Light The Night fundraising campaign features more than 150 evening walks in locations across North America. Each year, 1 million people participate in the walks, with cancer survivors bearing white lanterns meant to symbolize the goal of bringing light to cancer’s darkness. Supporters raise funds by accompanying the survivors on these walks.
In addition to the evening walks, the Light The Night campaign includes the Random Acts of Light initiative, in which celebrities and prominent local figures surprise cancer patients with in-person visits and activities. Light The Night also collaborates with companies in local communities to help raise funds in shops and businesses.
